I could not resist the opportunity to capture this awesome Indiana sunrise over Plymouth Municipal Airport. See the video link below.

This footage is from the Yuneec Typhoon H

It is important to understand the rules in part 107 that the FAA has imposed upon the sUAS. This is especially important if you want to fly in or around airport property. It is perfectly legal, if you follow the rules and understand airport operations, radio communications, and yield to all other traffic.

Check out our video course Remote Pilot 107 Online for all the information you will need to operate within the law and get your remote pilot certificate if you wish

 Drone Operations At The Airport

The above video was taken from the Typhoon H on a slow day at Plymouth Municipal Airport. The operator, Gary Cleveland, is a certificated Remote Pilot. Radio traffic was carefully monitored, so as to clear the way for any incoming aircraft.

If you are a certificated Remote Pilot, you can operate at a non-towered airport without notification. As a certificated pilot, you will understand that the drone must yield to all other aircraft and not interfere with any aircraft operations in the air or on the ground.

Certificated Remote Pilots can also operate at towered airports, although you must communicate with the tower and have clearance for all operations, as with any pilot in that airspace.

Drone Operations At The Airport

If you are operating your drone under the "model airplane exception", this means you are not a certificated remote pilot and do not operate for compensation or hire. If this is the case, you must notify the airport management anytime you wish to operate within 5 miles of the airport.

A non-certificated pilot is held to all the rules that the FAA has imposed. You must understand the limitations, in order to stay out of trouble with the FAA. Our course is designed to keep you legal, even if you do not pursue the license.
